Things to know
Before the Ceremony
Buy a marriage licence at least 24 hours before the ceremony. My partner is an authorized issuer, and we can assist you in acquiring your marriage licence. This ensures a smooth and convenient process as you prepare for your special day.
Note: The licence is valid only for marriages performed in Manitoba and expires three months from the date of issue. Also, both parties must be present in person to purchase the marriage licence
Documents Required to Acquire a Marriage Licence
When applying for a marriage licence, both parties must provide:
- Valid government-issued photo identification (such as a driver’s licence, passport, or permanent resident card, MPI Identification Card, or Certificate of Indian Status).
- If the name of either party on the above document is not their full current name you can use a combination of one of the above documents with their Birth Certificate or Canadian Citizenship Certificate or Canadian Immigration Document (ex. study permit, work permit, visitor visa).
- Proof of age (you must be at least 18 years old)
- If either party has been previously married, you must present either Divorce Certificate, or Decree Absolute.
- If your spouse is deceased, you must provide one of the documents (Death Certificate, Funeral Home Statement of Death, or Obituary Clipping from a Newspaper)
During the Wedding Ceremony
During your wedding ceremony, I lead your special day with warmth and care. I guide you through the exchange of mandatory vows and ensure all legal declarations are completed where required. I oversee the signing of the marriage certificate by both of you and your witnesses, and I also sign the marriage licence to make your union legally recognized.
Post-Marriage Ceremony
Once your ceremony has taken place, I take care of the registration process to ensure your marriage is legally recognized. I return the signed marriage licence to the Vital Statistics Branch, where your marriage is officially registered, granting you your legal married status.
